The EFLM Allocations Committee normally accepts applications on a rolling basis for consideration in November, February, and May.

Note that the Grants program has been temporarily suspended for the 2017-18 cycle, as we retool our application process.

Please read the EFLM Grant Guidelines for more detailed information on applying for a grant. Grant applicants are not expected to attend the Allocations Committee meetings. Notification is generally made within four weeks of the meeting.

Eligibility

Proposals may be submitted by district administrators, staff and faculty members, and/or parents. The appropriate building principal or district administrator must approve the proposal before it is submitted.
The Foundation seeks to make grants across all grade levels and all ten schools within the Lower Merion School District. The minimum grant awarded is $1,000; the maximum grant is generally $5,000, but this amount may be exceeded in special circumstances.
The EFLM does not support items or services that are regularly part of the school budget, nor does it grant individual scholarships.

What We Fund

The Allocations Committee is particularly looking for:
  • Projects that address the Achievement Gap
  • Projects that reach a large number of schoolchildren
  • Pilot programs that can be replicated in other schools
  • Innovative uses of technology
  • The acquisition of supplies that have a long and useful life (e.g., books, curriculum materials not funded by the District)
  • Projects that incorporate environmentally sustainable (“green”) elements.

What We Don't Fund

In general, the Committee will not elect to fund:
  • Salaries;
  • Food, t-shirts, or give-away items;
  • “One-shot” events (e.g., one-time assemblies, field trips);
  • Items normally funded by the District (e.g., textbooks, consumable supplies).
These are meant as very general guidelines, however. The Foundation considers each grant request individually.
